Our Responsibilities

Our responsibilities

How we run our business

We're a family-run business with 50+ years of family experience in the tool trade. This page covers our approach to bribery, modern slavery, the environment and equal opportunities.

Last updated: 25 October 2026

Anti-bribery and corruption

We do business honestly. We don't offer, give, ask for or accept bribes or any other improper payment or favour, whether directly or through someone else.

  • This applies to everyone who works for us or acts on our behalf, including our directors, staff and anyone representing us.
  • We win business on product, price and service. We don't make payments to win orders or to speed up routine processes.
  • We only give or accept gifts and hospitality that are modest, occasional and not intended to influence a business decision.
  • We follow the Bribery Act 2010 and expect our suppliers and customers to do the same.

Raising a concern. If you're worried that anyone connected with our business has acted improperly, please contact a director in confidence at sales@diytools.com, marking your email "Confidential: for the attention of a director".

Modern slavery and human trafficking

We're opposed to modern slavery and human trafficking in all its forms, and we don't want any part of it in our business or the businesses we buy from.

The Modern Slavery Act 2015 only requires a formal annual statement from businesses with a turnover of £36 million or more. We're below that size, so this is a voluntary statement of how we work.

Our business and supply chain

DIYTools.com is a trading name of The Tool & Gauge Company (UK) Limited, a family-run engineers' merchant based in Hayes, Middlesex. We supply hand tools, power tools, measuring and precision tools, PPE, workwear, fixings and consumables to trade, public sector and retail customers in Great Britain and worldwide. We buy from established brand manufacturers and recognised UK distributors.

What we do

  • We check the right to work in the UK of everyone we employ before they start, as the law requires.
  • We pay our staff at least the legal minimum wage and treat them fairly.
  • We buy from established, reputable manufacturers and distributors rather than unknown sources.
  • We expect our suppliers to follow the law on employment, human rights and modern slavery.

If something concerns you

If you have any concern about modern slavery in our business or supply chain, please contact a director in confidence at sales@diytools.com. We'll look into it and, if we find a problem, we'll act on it, including ending a supplier relationship and reporting it to the authorities where appropriate. You can also contact the Modern Slavery & Exploitation Helpline on 08000 121 700.

Environment

We know our business has an impact on the environment, and we try to keep it as low as we reasonably can.

Recycling

Old electricals and batteries

When you buy a new electrical item from us, we'll take your old equivalent item back free of charge for recycling. You can also drop old portable batteries off at our Hayes premises. See our Recycling (WEEE) page.

Deliveries

Fewer, fuller deliveries

We charge one delivery per order and send everything together where we can, which means fewer journeys.

Waste

Packaging and waste

We reuse packaging and packing materials where it's safe to do so, and we recycle cardboard and other waste from our premises.

Compliance

Meeting the rules

We follow the environmental laws that apply to us, including the rules on waste electrical equipment and batteries.

Equal opportunities

We treat everyone fairly: our customers, our staff and the people who apply to work with us.

We don't discriminate on the grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation. If you need any adjustments to shop with us, contact us or apply for a job, please let us know and we'll do our best to help. See our Join Our Team page.
